What we read for every runner

ClassWho has already run at this level Every race is Grade 1. A horse stepping up from allowance company reads very differently from a proven Grade 1 winner.

SurfaceDirt, turf, and the switches How each runner has handled this surface and this distance before — and who is trying something new.

FormPeaking, holding or tailing off The trajectory across recent starts, not just the last line.

ConnectionsTrainers and jockeys at Keeneland Records at this track, on this surface, at this distance — not career averages.

ShippersHorses arriving from overseas Our race history covers North American starts, so a horse with few US starts will have a thinner profile. Keep that in mind when you read its card.
